What is a wave offering?

I did a search on Google and I found an entry that called it a peace offering. I don’t understand the point of it.

  1. Comment by Carolyn Fiene:

I was telling someone at church yesterday that sometimes my prayers are just ‘wave offerings’ – Rather than an extended time in prayer, naming each person and each concern, I ‘wave’ them all before the Lord – something like ‘Lord, bless and care for: my family, my friends, my neighborhood, my churches …’

The wave offering in Exodus, however, as I read it … it was waved before God (blessed) but not all burned up. The breast and thigh were given to the priests as their food portion.

I found out what a wave offering is. It involves having a Priest wave the first sheaf of grain, from the spring harvest, to be accepted by God. The sheaf was the “first fruits” of the harvest. The same term is used later in the bible in refering to Jesus Christ. ( But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the “first fruits” of those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20 )
